Every Buffalo is a TROPHY

A trophy well-earned and never to be forgotten.
A trophy well-earned and never to be forgotten.

H rains do what they do everywhere in the world – produce lush green grass. The unusual spring 2026 deluge that hit Lugenda, Mozambique was no exception; it had a turbo effect on the bush.

We are hosting a wonderful father and son team from Montana who have ventured to Africa for the first time, and they are still hunting as this post goes to press. They jumped into the deep end with buffalo on their multi-species docket.

The grass was still head high and thick as rebar on their arrival July 18th. Prior attempts at burning proved futile; the bush was so wet that it burned itself out soon after every match hit the ground. There was no choice but to find and follow a track into the maze even though the line of sight barely extended beyond 10-15 feet.

The buff pictured here fell to a .375 after a very long day and countess cautious steps into the deep. I look at this buff and marvel at the achievement. No trophy is better than the one a hunter properly hunts and kills under the uncontrollable conditions dished out by nature.
