A fitting moment of reflection by PH Derick and friend Martin after taking a bull elephant in the Luangwa Valley. The flask, cigars, pith helmet and double rifles add a unique character to the experience.
A client project - help commissioning the only all-guage set of Davif McKay Brown O/Us, shown in the white here.
Horse meat is a staple in Mongolia. But the irony of this entre for lunch in the field had me looking for something else to eat.
The Mother of All Salk Licks - Central African Republic - while tracking Lord Derby Eland. The head net helped with the battle against the ever-present swarms of mopane flies. They know human biology and will find their way into all orifices of the body.
Big Mountain Caribou from NWT taken on a backpack trip using pack dogs. We were hunting Dall sheep and due to the remoteness, were intending to hunt caribou in another part of the area where trophy extraction would be easier. But when this caribou appeared on the skyline, it spoke 400+ B&C. I was told I would have to pack it out if I took it and happily did.
Nighttime sky in Mongolia captured by Imtiaz Ahmad.
The Alaska Peninsula. I had taken a brown bear at lower altitude, closer to the beach, but winds prevented the plane from picking us up. So, the outfitter landed on top on the mountain, and we packed the bear up to it. We cleared out the big rocks and make a runway so it could take off.
My friend and hunting companion, Shane Pallister. Shane was one helluva hunter and famous desert bighorn sheep guide. When I snapped this picture in the Altai Mountains, we did not know that he would soon find out that he had Stage 4 cancer. This photo indicates his struggle before cancer took him. RIP my friend.
Teeth from a mature free-range lion taken in Niassa Special Reserve where they exist in strong numbers and many die of old age. Lions from this area are exportable because of the strength of the population.
A well haired-out 11-footer taken during the spring season on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
In a bygone era, hunting adventure was viewed in positive light. I lament the change in general public sentiment.
Although this video "short" is only 6 seconds long, it does not take long to realize that Jaguar are massive and fierce. This reel was captured in Bolivia during a remote jungle fishing trip.
